External finishes

There is an extensive choice of external materials and finishes for buildings:

This is in terms of both the underlying base material, (e.g. plain brickwork, cement-based render, wooden cladding) and the overlying surface finish, (e.g. silicone-based water-repellent coating, alkali-resistant water-miscible paint and herbicidal wood stain).

The full range of choices for both the base material and the surface finish is much wider than these examples and the correct combination of material and finish with expert application is crucial in achieving a satisfactory short-term appearance, long-term durability and minimum maintenance costs.

The choice of base material is usually aesthetic whereas the choice of surface finish is usually technical.

We are able to take you through these aesthetic and technical choices and we would be pleased to offer our advice to help you find the best solution for your circumstances.

Typical finishes include:

  • Rough cast
  • Tyrolean render
  • Pebble dash
  • Smooth sponge finish render & painted
  • Brick work
  • Stone work
  • Timber cladding

There is greater choice for external doors, fascias and guttering which can, now, all add to the character of a property.
